Our Top 10 Stud Ram Criteria:

1) Sound on all feet and legs

2) Medium to heavy bone

3) Straight, wide, flat "Hampshire" top

4) Chest capacity and body that will be around for many years

5) Hardy - must live and get fat on grass

6) Hampshire breed type

Notice that height does not make my top ten. In my opinion height doesn't do anything for you if you sacrifice the above items in order to obtain it!

7) Produce offspring capable of weighting greater than 100 pounds at 90 days of age.

8) Meat Production - Produce offspring with low backfat, large ribeye area and a good leg of lamb. We will scan all of our ram lambs and keeper ewe lambs for backfat and ribeye area this year. Our intent is to use the same company that Western Illinois University uses for their Ram Test data. This will give us good comparative data to other Hampshire breeders as well as other breeds.

9) Scrotal Circumference - I like to see at least 32 cm on a 150 pound ram lamb.

10) Prefer twin or triplet birth

He has a smaller frame than Hubbard 1319 but notice that he is about the same in weight. He is full of meat!

Houghton 2192 is the closest thing we have to a true traditional Hampshire Ram.

We purchased Hubbard 4013 for his extreme length of body. He is being used on some thick average length ewes. Our hope is to obtain more length out of their lamb crop and still retain the thick wide Hampshire top we admire.

Hubbard 3-1340 or "Rambling Rose" as Chauncey Hubbard named him is the tallest of our rams. He has good eye appeal with his long clean straight top.

Notice that he has the same sire MacCarthy 0127 as our lead stud ram Hubbard 1319.

We plan to use Rambling Rose on 20+ ewes for 2007 lambs.
