Our Top 10 Brood Ewe Criteria:

1) Sound on all feet and legs medium to heavy bone.

2) Straight, wide, flat "Hampshire" top

3) Chest and body capacity that will produce lambs for many years

4) Natural mothering instincts

5) Good milk production - raise twins or triplet birth

6) Hardy - must live and get fat on grass

Notice that height does not make my top ten. In my opinion height doesn't do anything for you if you sacrifice the above items in order to obtain it!

7) Hampshire breed type

8) Produce offspring capable of weighting greater than 100 pounds at 90 days of age.

9) Meat Production - Produce offspring with low backfat, large ribeye area and a good leg of lamb. We will scan all of our ram lambs and keeper ewe lambs for backfat and ribeye area this year. Our intent is to use the same company that Western Illinois University uses for their Ram Test data. This will give us good comparative data to other Hampshire breeders as well as other breeds.

10) Prefer from twin or triplet birth
